Tom Brady has one word to describe his teammate Julian Edelman: “Gladiator.”

During the Patriots’ preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Friday, Edelman tore his ACL in one of the plays on the team’s opening drive. New England announced on Saturday that the 31-year-old would miss the remainder of the season.

In support of injured wide receiver, Brady shared a photo of the two after the Patriots’ Super Bowl LI victory with the flexed bicep, squirrel, and trophy emojis.

The quarterback knows what it’s like to have a season-ending knee injury. In 2008, he suffered from both an ACL and MCL tear in the team’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
