After further evaluating wide receiver Julian Edelman’s knee, the Patriots reportedly are fearing that the 31-year-old has suffered from a torn ACL. According to NFL Networks’ Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, his MRI is scheduled for Saturday to confirm the extent of the injury.

During one of the plays from New England’s opening drive against Detroit, Edelman’s knee buckled under him while making a harsh cut to dodge Lions defenders.

Following the play, Edelman was seen grabbing the back of his knee as he limped off the field. After briefly spending some time in the team’s sideline medical tent, he was quickly carted off to the locker room. His limp was reportedly not pronounced as he made his way in.

It was later announced that the wide receiver’s return to the game was questionable. Following halftime, Edelman’s status was officially downgraded to “out” for the remainder of the contest.

When asked if he was able to check in on Edelman, head coach Bill Belichick didn’t have much to say to WBZ’s Steve Burton. During the broadcast, WBZ also reported that the wide receiver was seen walking on crutches after the game.
