“He’s another competitor,” he told reporters on Friday. “He comes out and competes every day. That’s good when somebody comes out here with the same mentality you have.”
‘There’s really no friends on the field,’ according to Stephon Gilmore
Patriots newcomer Stephon Gilmore isn’t afraid to leave it all on the field. Even against his own teammates.
After getting into a scuffle with wide receiver Julian Edelman during Tuesday’s training camp session, the cornerback got tied up with another receiver — Danny Amendola — on Saturday.
Following the practice, Amendola told reporters: “It was nothing serious … It was good to get some physicality to the game.”
Gilmore echoed this sentiment, emphasizing his desire to compete every day he comes to work.
“There’s really no friends on the field to me,” he said, via The Providence Journal. “Off the field, I’m very respectful. I respect everyone on the team. Talk to them. It’s nothing personal. When I’m on the field, I’m competitor, and there’s no friends.”
When asked specifically about his fight with Edelman, Gilmore lauded his teammate for sharing a similar approach to the game.
