Swampscott native Dave Portnoy made his late-night television debut on Wednesday night as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

A die-hard Patriots fan, the 40-year-old arrived wearing his mass-produced t-shirt that features NFL commissioner Roger Goodell with a red clown nose. It’s the same tee New England’s defensive coordinator Matt Patricia donned while disembarking from the team plane after winning Super Bowl LI—a gesture Goodell is reportedly still upset about.

While Meyers did not comment on his attire during the segment, the talk show host did pose a hypothetical personnel change regarding Portnoy’s beloved Pats: “For the next five years, if you could only have one, Brady or Belichick?”

“Belichick. No brainer,” Portnoy responded with no hesitation. “I think Belichick wins no matter where he goes. Brady wins most places, but Belichick’s the guy. Belichick’s the greatest who’s ever done it. He’s a genius, and he’d be the guy I pick. I think coach is the most important position in football.”

“He may never die,” he continued. “And if he does, he’s going to be like Star Wars, like the emperor up in the sky.”

“The rest of the world is going to be the Rebel Alliance,” Meyers quipped. “You realize that’s going to happen.”

To which Portnoy said, “I still will take our odds.”

The pair also discussed the trajectory of Barstool Sports, which originally started as a print publication that Portnoy distributed near T-stations. His website was formerly headquartered in Boston before moving to New York City in 2016.
