Julian Edelman shared a letter from a professor who doubted his NFL dream

After reading a scouting report about himself from the 2009 NFL Draft, Julian Edelman said, “There are only two things you can do when someone says you’re not good enough. You can prove them right, or you can prove them wrong.”

Well, the New England Patriots wide receiver certainly went with the latter of the two options. On Tuesday, he shared a photo of a letter that he says was written by one of his professors from the College of San Mateo. The English professor wanted to acknowledge a “flippant comment” made in class about Edelman’s seemingly unrealistic aspirations.

From the letter:

You had made some comment about “going to the league,” and I said something about setting realistic goals, about how few people successfully enter the ranks of the professional athlete, blah, blah, blah.

The 31-year-old shared a longer excerpt of the letter on Twitter, with the caption: “set your goals high. do whatever it takes to achieve them. #motivation.”
