Martellus Bennett doesn’t think Tom Brady is the best quarterback he’s ever played with
Martellus Bennett has played for five NFL teams — including one season under Bill Belichik’s tutelage in New England — but the tight end didn’t rank Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the best he’s ever played with.
Speaking on NFL Total Access, Bennett evaluated his previous passers and came to the following conclusion:
- Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers)
- Brady
- Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears)
- Eli Manning (New York Giants)
- Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys)
Despite ranking him behind Rodgers, Bennett had high praise for Brady: “Tom is arguably the greatest to ever play the game. A great teacher, a great teammate, great person.”
“I just learned a lot about football just from him,” he told former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest. “He taught me so much more. I’m a way better player this year than last year after leaving the Patriots. I thought I grew as a player a lot just learning how to play and being in a role.”
When comparing Brady against Rodgers, the tight end said that his current quarterback is “a little more athletic” and noted body language as a key differentiating factor.
“With Aaron, his ball is a little bit different,” he said. “He can whip things a little bit different, you know. He doesn’t have to set his feet all the way to throw the ball 80 yards or anything like that.”
With Brady, on the other hand, Bennett explained how “he wanted you to get your head around quicker because he wants to get the ball out of his hands a little bit faster.”
