Donald Trump congratulated Danny Amendola on his key Super Bowl catch. Just one problem.

During his speech Wednesday honoring the New England Patriots for their Super Bowl LI victory, President Donald Trump made a point to congratulate a few specific individuals for their play.

Trump congratulated Trey Flowers for his key fourth-quarter sack. He applauded Julian Edelman’s miraculous catch. And he commended Danny Amendola’s crucial fourth-down catch.

Just one issue.

“Where is Danny?” Trump asked, turning to the team.

The realization that Amendola was among a number of Patriots players who not did not make the White House trip generated a few chuckles from those who were in attendance Wednesday — as well as from Trump himself.

“Way to go, Danny,” he added turning back to the crowd.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said Amendola was busy attending a friend’s funeral.

The wide receiver’s 17-yard third-quarter reception was among a number of key plays in the Patriots’s 25-point second-half comeback.

As The Boston Globe reported, Amendola subsequently thanked Trump on Twitter for the shoutout and explained he wasn’t able to make the trip to Washington, D.C., due to the funeral.

“Thanks for the shout out @realDonaldTrump! in the GYM! Funeral service for my boy Jaimie Carrillo tonight! RIP-JC,” he posted, along with a photo of himself working out.

However, following some backlash, Amendola deleted the tweet and replaced it with a simpler post.
