Chris Evans gives Tom Brady a ‘pass’ on supporting Trump
"He gave me five rings. What am I supposed to do?"
Principled as he might be in his political views, the man who plays Captain America makes an exception for quarterback of the New England Patriots.
Actor Chris Evans, a Sudbury native, recently commented on reconciling his pronounced opposition to President Donald Trump with Tom Brady’s support. Evans is a lifelong Patriots fan, and explained his rationale with USA Today:
“Well, I tell you what. If anyone gets a pass it’s Tom Brady,” Evans explained. He continued:
We may have political disagreements. But I don’t want to encourage this landscape of if you disagree with me politically, you’re my enemy; That’s not the case. Granted, it’s an easy thing to say as a privileged white male. Because there are plenty of people oppressed and victimized and in jeopardy at this stage. It’s easy for me to say, “Hey, we can all get along,” and I have to remember that, as well. I’m just going to out of my way to give Tom Brady a pass. He gave me five rings. What am I supposed to do? He gets a pass.
While the Marvel Comics star was “devastated” by the election of Trump, Evans was at Super Bowl LI, and celebrated with predictable enthusiasm:
