Bill Belichick gets all philosophical about playing on a short week

Bill Belichick isn’t too consumed by the Patriots’ short week.

Even-keel to the weekly yins and yangs of the NFL season, the Patriots coach got a little philosophical when asked Wednesday if playing on the road with a day less to prepare would be a “challenge.”

“It is what it is,” Belichick said. “With every long week’s a short week; with every short week’s a long week. So, it is what it is.”

Elaborating on his near-palindrome of a sentence, Belichick explained that despite one day fewer the team had to prepare before Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, they got an extra day before their win Monday against the Baltimore Ravens.

“If you play on Monday you’ve got a short week after a long week,” he said.

However, it was the first part of his answer that caught reporters’ attention.

For Belichick, a firm adherent of the “It is what it is” philosophy, it apparently wasn’t the first time he’d given the answer.

Asked about game-planning earlier this season before a game against the Buffalo Bills, Belichick got even more profound.

“I think each week, it’s a different week, so I don’t really know,” he said. “This week’s different from last week, and next week will be different from this week.”

A real Rust Cohle, that Belichick.
