Morning Sports Update: Reggie Wayne says ‘cheating’ Tom Brady can’t win MVP
The former Colts wideout was actually a Patriot for a very brief period.
The Patriots practiced in the aftermath of the Jamie Collins trade and the Bruins squeaked out a win behind a dominant Tuukka Rask.
Reggie Wayne: Tom Brady can’t win MVP ‘because he was caught cheating this year’: Count Reggie Wayne among those who will be campaigning against Tom Brady for MVP. The retired wide receiver, who played every one of his NFL seasons with the Colts said on NFL Network that Brady is not a worthy choice. “There is no way Tom Brady can win MVP because he was caught cheating this year,” he said. Pro Football Focus says Brady has been “virtually flawless” this year. (WEEI)

Is Bruins forward Ryan Spooner on the trade block?: Despite Tuukka Rask’s continued excellence, the Bruins have scuffled out to a 5-4-0 start to the 2016 season that is good for only 5th in the Atlantic Division. One issue has been the team’s third line, which still has not notched a single point through nine games. Former center Ryan Spooner has found himself shifted to the wing with the team’s depth up the middle, and could potentially be packaged for a defenseman. (Sportsnet)
Danny Ainge said Celtics would not have won championship in 2008 without Ray Allen: One question that emerged yesterday after Ray Allen’s retirement announcement was whether or not the Celtics should retire his number. One question not up for debate? Allen’s importance to the 2008 championship team, at least according to Danny Ainge. “We would not have won the 2008 title without him,” Ainge said. Allen retires as the all time leader in 3-pointers made. (NESN)

Randy Moss thought Bill Belichick was prank calling him when informed of trade: The Patriots have had a strict sense of discipline under Bill Belichick that hasn’t cultivated too many interesting characters along the way. Aside from Martellus Bennett, one of the most outspoken personalities to suit up for New England was definitely Randy Moss, who shared on ESPN that he went on a verbal tirade when Bill Belichick called him to say they’d traded for him, thinking it was a prank. Dave Dombrowski’s offseason will serve as a referendum on whether the Red Sox should have kept Ben Cherington: In the aftermath of so many executives and staffers leaving the Red Sox at the conclusion of the 2016 season, one can’t help but wonder about the state of the franchise. Ultimately, it will be in year two that we find out just how good Dave Dombrowski is, when he’s not inheriting a talented roster and making the easy additions like David Price and Craig Kimbrel.
