The Patriots shocked everybody with the trade of star linebacker Jamie Collins Monday.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty says Jamie Collins trade ‘a bit shocking’: Jamie Collins often looked like the keystone that held the Patriots defense together with his big-play ability, but as Patriots fans are well aware, nobody is untouchable in Bill Belichick’s eyes. The team sent Collins to the Browns a day before the league’s trade deadline for a conditional third round pick, and safety Devin McCourty said the trade was “a bit shocking to everyone on the team.” (NESN)

Tom Brady on Jamie Collins trade:’It’s always tough to hear news like that’: Tom Brady and Bill Belichick made their scheduled radio appearances just after the Collins trade, and while Belichick was predictable in his response, Brady was more open with his personal feelings. “I am always sad when we lose a player that I like and someone that I respect like Jamie,” he said. “We on offense we know when you lose a player of Jamie’s caliber, we’re going to have to do better.” (WEEI)

LeGarrette Blount chimes in on the Jamie Collins trade on Twitter: While Devin McCourty and Tom Brady were able to express their disappointment over losing Jamie Collins whilst maintaining their composure out of respect for Belichick’s decision, teammate LeGarrette Blount offered a more outspoken response. A lot of debate had gone into whether the Patriots ought to allocate their financial resources to Dont’a Hightower or Jamie Collins, and Blount seems to be a Collins fan. (Twitter h/t NESN)

Marcus Smart says he will play Wednesday against Chicago Bulls: The Celtics extended their commitments to Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier last night, picking up their 2017 options, and for the first time Boston will have both guards in the backcourt when Smart returns from his ankle injury on Wednesday. The Celtics lost their first matchup with the Bulls last week, getting torched by guards Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade for eight 3-pointers without Smart’s perimeter defense. (MassLive)
