Bill Belichick began his Tuesday media conference call with what sounded like a typical piece of football news.

“Well, we have a roster addition to announce this morning,” he said.

Yet the actual “roster addition” was of a completely different kind. Belichick, 64, is officially a grandfather for the first time.

“It’s a little different than the usual one and the emphasis would be on little,” Belichick explained about the addition. “We can add newborn Blakely Rose to the depth chart. She was born this morning to my son Steve and the real ‘MVP’, Jen, so this is a happy and exciting day for all of us.”

Belichick was quick to transition back to football:

“And with that we’ll move on to the Steelers.”

Pressed later in the call for “any height, weight or speed measurable to pass along,” he obliged:

“Twenty inches, seven pounds.”
