The Patriots rolled to 5-1 against the feisty Bengals, and the Red Sox lost their general manager.

Tom Brady: “It always gets kind of chippy with the Bengals”: The Bengals wanted to play a physical game yesterday, and the Patriots stooped to their level at times, but when it came time to focus and execute, New England broke past them. Tom Brady spoke about several moments from the game, including a controversial hit by Vontaze Burfict on Martellus Bennett. “If they can line you up, they’re going to take your head off,” Brady said.  Brady was also asked about Donald Trump. Mike Hazen leaves Red Sox to be Diamondbacks GM: Former Red Sox general manager Mike Hazen has departed for greener pastures, electing to take a job as general manager and executive vice president of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hazen was a fixture with the team in its rise to success, and was a key advisor to both Theo Epstein and Ben Cherington before being named GM in Boston. In Arizona, he will replace Dave Stewart, though Tony La Russa has decided to stay on as an advisor. (Boston Globe)

Business as usual for Tom Brady, ‘homecoming king’: The Patriots win over the Browns had to be taken with a grain of salt, but after beating the talented Bengals handily, their dominance has once again been reestablished. Tom Brady had a plethora of weapons make an impact once again, with James White, and Rob Gronkowski picking up the slack for LeGarrette Blount and Julian Edelman’s quiet afternoon. More importantly, the defense looked better once again with Dont’a Hightower back. (Boston.com)

Ben Roethlishberger reportedly needs surgery, will miss Patriots-Steelers game: According to Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ben Roethlisberger will be undergoing knee surgery sometime today and will almost certainly miss this weekend’s matchup with the Patriots. In his stead, backup quarterback Landry Jones will have to hope his own arsenal of weapons can somehow keep pace with the mechanical efficiency New England has shown in 5 of 6 weeks so far. (NESN)

Stephen Gostkowski: ‘Inexcusable’ to miss extra point attempt: One of the few players who has consistently been a cause of concern this season has been, shockingly, Stephen Gostkowski. Gostkowski once again missed the mark yesterday, this time an extra point, and nearly added a second miss when a late field goal just hooked inside the upright. “For me, that’s inexcusable to miss a kick like that,” he said. “I’m just trying to get to a point where I’m a consistent player on this team.” (CSNNE)
