What the Bills are saying about the Patriots this week
Rex Ryan has said quite a bit by himself, but his players have thoughts on their opponent too.
The Patriots will try to move to 4-0 Sunday, but the always pesky Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills may have something to say about that. Here’s what Ryan and his players were saying this week ahead of the matchup.
Head coach Rex Ryan
- on the quarterbacks: “I think where you have to be aware of the differences, especially like, we’re kidding [about] Edelman but if he’s in the game, then you probably have to approach him a little different… Obviously they’ll probably have more run-pass option type stuff than you might have with some of the other guys but they’re going to tailor to the strength of their players like they always do.”
- on LeGarrette Blount: “I think you need to step up and stop the run against him, he’s one of the league leaders I think now running the football. Seems like they’re committed to running the ball more than they have in the past so obviously we have to do a good job stopping him.”
- on Bill Belichick: “Well obviously his style works a hell of a lot better than my style, so I’ll give him that. But you know what? I learned a long time ago, you got to be yourself in this league and that wouldn’t have worked… And so, at least one thing we have in common is the fact that we know you better be yourself in this league and look, I think it’s hilarious when he’s on there because that’s who he is but it’s great and he does it better than anybody else… Bill Belichick is the most consistent guy there is and I try to be consistent, albeit in a much different way.”
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor:
- on the Patriots: “The Patriots definitely do a good job of taking away what you do well and them forcing me to have to stay in the pocket is definitely something that we have in mind when thinking of the game plan this week, so we have to be better at the execution. We look forward to going out there and accepting the challenge.”
Running back Lesean McCoy:
- on Bill Belichick: “They’re a team that’s been very well coached for a long time. I mean Belichick’s one of the best for sure so he’ll have a pretty good game plan for sure. As the offense we’ve got to go out there and execute. I think he’ll make adjustments he’ll bring things out we haven’t seen and we’ll bring some new things out that they haven’t seen so it will be one of those types of games.”
- on the defense: “Them not having their top guy out there on defense [Dont’a Hightower] they’ll do a lot of unique types of looks, blitzes, but you know as offense we’re gonna have to put points up. I think the more points we put up, puts a lot more pressure on that offense.”
Offensive Lineman Richie Incognito:
Linebacker Preston Brown:
- on Edelman at quarterback:
#Bills LB Preston Brown on possibly seeing Edelman at QB: “We’ll watch some Kent State highlights to see if he can throw the ball 30 yards”

Defensive lineman Kyle Williams:
- on the Patriots: “You have familiarity with personnel I think but every gameplan is different. There’s going to be different challenges from game to game and week to week no matter when you play these guys, they’re going to have things that they think they can exploit on different weeks so we’re going to put a gameplan based on what we see but I’m sure that we’ll get some plays and some different things that we’re going to have to adjust to during the game.”
- on the quarterbacks: “We’re going to try to cover all bases. We’re prepared for everything. That way when you get anything, you’re not shocked, you’re not surprised. I know that’s going to be something played close to the vest and we’ll get ready and be ready for whatever is thrown at us.”
- on the offensive line: “Well I think the thing is, you know I’ve played against them a number of years, you see the same things that you saw a decade ago. Physical offensive line that plays hard and doesn’t make mistakes… Coach Scarnecchia always does a great job with his O-line and they don’t beat themselves. So just be on top of our jobs and be ready a physical football game on Sunday.”
Defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman:
- on Jimmy Garoppolo:
#Bills DB Nickell Robey-Coleman: “From what I’ve seen, (#Patriots QB Jimmy) Garoppolo is like a broke man’s Tom Brady.”
