Rob Gronkowski says he suffered ‘no setbacks’ playing for the first time last week
Gronk didn't see much action and said he was sore, but looks to be improving.
After Bill Belichick speaks to media on Wednesday, it’s usually standard procedure for the starting quarterback to follow.
Instead, it was tight end Rob Gronkowski who followed Bill Belichick to the podium this week, after making his 2016 season debut Thursday night in Houston. He spoke about how his hamstring injury felt after his first night back in action.
“I felt good,” he said, adding that he was sore. Gronkowski said that he always feels sore after playing a game though, “whether you play 10 plays or you play 70.” He also said that while you have to be careful with any injury, with hamstrings in particular, you can’t “hop right in, and go 100 percent”
He also said that while not on the field, he has tried to focus on studying to try and continue improving as a player, noting that he has been watching tape to try and better comprehend coverages for when he returns.
Gronkowski said the team only used him in certain situations to try and set him up for success as well as avoid any further complications last week.
“No setbacks,” he said, “just feeling good, progressing every day.” Gronkowski also said that the two quarterbacks were also progressing, as was the entire team as a whole in the absence of Tom Brady. “I can’t wait till I’m freaking going crazy out there,” he said.
