Morning Sports Update: Patriots expect either Jacoby Brissett or Jimmy Garoppolo to play

David Price crumbled in a big moment, while the Patriots and Celtics had important practices Tuesday.

Jimmy Garoppolo still in pain, Patriots expect to have him or Jacoby Brissett vs. Bills: The first update Tuesday came when both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett took the practice field, neither impeded by a sling or brace for their injuries. But as the day moved on, we learned even more, in that the Patriots are confident one of the two will take the field, despite Jimmy Garoppolo not having full range of motion in his injured shoulder. John Farrell explains why he left David Price in for 7th inning: After nearly two weeks of amazing wins, it was a crushing defeat at Yankee Stadium for the Red Sox last night. David Price did not pitch well, and in spite of a comeback led by Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts that tied up the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh, John Farrell sent Price back for the bottom half, having given up ten hits already, and the southpaw quickly allowed a single and a home run. MLB Postseason Picture: Red Sox currently slated to play Indians: If the season had ended with last night’s loss, Boston would be lined up to face Terry Francona’s Indians. Also important is that with the Rangers’ win last night, they reclaimed the best record in the American League, and home field advantage in the playoffs… for now. With only five games to play in 2016, the Red Sox first order of business is to win the AL East, but then it’s time to think about playoff matchups. (NESN)

What we learned on Showtime’s ‘Inside the NFL’ from a mic’d up Bill Belichick: Last night, Showtime aired an exclusive insight into just what Bill Belichick was thinking when he sent out third-string rookie Jacoby Brissett to face a then-vaunted Texans defense. Belichick wore a microphone during the game for the network’s ‘Inside the NFL’ program, and the show aired last night and let fans hear him interact with players, coaches, and the Texans during the game. Jaylen Brown knows there’s a lot he can learn from his teammates: Jaylen Brown showed up well in advance of the start of yesterday’s inaugural Celtics’ practice, and the rookie used that extra time to prepare mentally, studying different rotations, and formations on an iPad. The 19 year-old Brown said he wanted to be “like a sponge,” and absorb the knowledge of his veteran teammates to expedite his transition to the highest level of basketball. (CSNNE)
