Tom Brady: ‘I always choose to stand’ during national anthem
"It’s our responsibility to do the best we can do to change the things we don’t like."
It seemed like only a matter of time until Tom Brady was asked about one of the most hotly debated issues around the NFL: Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest, which has now spread into various forms of league-wide player demonstrations.
Patriots players like Jimmy Garoppolo and Chris Long have been asked about the protests and given varying perspectives, so it was no surprise that Brady was finally asked to give his take.
“I always choose to stand and reflect, at a moment like that, on the blessings that I’ve had,” Brady said in a Q&A with Esquire Magazine. “That’s how I choose to express how I feel toward the people that have sacrificed for us. I think we live in a wonderful country. It’s certainly not perfect. I don’t think any country is perfect. It’s our responsibility to do the best we can do to change the things we don’t like. I think that’s part of social responsibility, and everybody is going to do that in their own way.”
