With countless “Free Brady” shirts and posters filling the crowds at Patriots training camp this offseason, the connection between Tom Brady’s four-game suspension and a prison sentence has been easy to make.

Now his favorite wide receiver has said what many fans have been thinking.

“Not going to lie, it’s like one of your buddies going to jail. It’s one of those types of things,” Julian Edelman told reporters Sunday, adding, “The whole situation is unfortunate.”

Although Edleman will surely miss Brady to start the season, he reiterated what has been the team’s mantra since finding out their quarterback would be out: “We’ve got to move on. We love him to death. On the field, off the field, he’s been a great help in my life. But we’ve got to deal with the situation and right now the situation is thinking about the Arizona Cardinals and who’s going to be out there to go out and play against these guys.”
