Patriots sign Matthew Slater to contract extension

New England Patriots wide receiver Matthew Slater (18) signs autographs during an NFL football training camp practice Saturday, July 30, 2016, in Foxborough, Mass. Michael Dwyer/AP

The Patriots have signed Matthew Slater to a contract extension that keeps him under contract through 2017, a Boston Globe review of NFL Players Association records found.

Slater, 30, is in his ninth season with the Patriots, and has been named to five Pro Bowl teams – second on the team only to Tom Brady’s 11.

The special teams captain will receive a $600,000 signing bonus in addition to the $1 million contract.
