Tom Brady’s agent: ‘An accident occurred and Tom will be OK in time’

Patriots fans who went to bed early Thursday night concerned about Tom Brady’s sudden unavailability will have some good news to wake up to this morning.

Speaking through NFL media insider Ian Rapoport, the quarterback’s agent said “An accident occurred and Tom will be OK in time.” CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran first reported that Brady had inadvertently sliced his thumb while trying to remove something from his cleat with a pair of scissors.

Coach Bill Belichick immediately quashed any questions about the decision after the game, saying he was the one who elected not to play Brady. Brady’s unexpected absence initially raised eyebrows, after reports surfaced earlier in the day suggesting he would take the field for Thursday night, later confirmed by Belichick on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Brady himself added a Facebook post Thursday night which would seem to further imply he expected to take the field.

Ultimately, the team was capable of handling the Bears without Brady, as Jimmy Garoppolo improved on his debut last week by finding the end zone and avoiding being sacked.

Given that Brady will, of course, be sidelined for the season’s first games anyway, he should have plenty of time to recover from the injury.
