Tom Brady on Jimmy Garoppolo: ‘He has the respect of everybody’
Brady praised his backup during a post-practice interview.
Tom Brady had good things to say about his backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
“He works his tail off to prepare, and I know he has the respect of everybody,” Brady said Sunday after practice. “I think that’s what you always do. You try to come out here and earn the respect of your teammates and your coaches. And you’ve gotta put the work in. You’ve gotta show that you’re willing to show up every day, and do whatever it takes to get the job done.
“It’s been fun to see his development. We got off to a good start the other night, so hopefully we keep it going.”
Garoppolo played the first two quarters of the Patriots’ 34-22 win over the Saints. He finished 11 of 18 for 168 yards, took two sacks, and posted a 91.9 quarterback rating. Brady was not at the game, as he was attending a memorial service for a family member. His absence was a taste of what the first four weeks of the season will be like for the Patriots, when Brady serves his four-game suspension.
But it sounds like Brady thinks the Patriots are in capable hands.
“He does a good job against me all the time, so he’s a good competitor,” Brady said.
