Tom Brady reminded Drew Brees of that time he beat Brees in college

The rainy weather in Foxborough on Wednesday reminded Tom Brady of a day in October 1999. He was thinking of the day where his Michigan Wolverines beat Drew Brees and the Purdue Boilermakers, 38-12.

According to Brees, Brady walked over to Brees during the Patriots-Saints joint practice, and mentioned it.

“We actually reminisced on that, because the weather today was the exact same as it was for that game,” Brees said after practice Wednesday. “So Tom actually threw it out there. He was like, ‘Hey, remember that game. Michigan and Purdue in [the Wolverines’ stadium,] the Big House.’ He said, ‘It’s just like it.’ They kind of smoked us in that game, though. But little Purdue walked into the Big House, and they were pretty stout that year — Michigan. Tom had a great day.”

Brady didn’t play the entire game, as he was embroiled in a quarterback battle with Drew Henson. Brady finished 15 of 25 with 250 yards. Brees was 20 of 49 for 293 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

“I think our team outperformed them,” Brady told ESPN after the game in 1999. “The defense outperformed them and the offense as a unit kind of outperformed them. But they’re a great team. We still have a ways to go with this team.”

Here are some highlights from that game.
