If Jimmy Garoppolo has success as the Patriots’ starting quarterback during the first four weeks of the season, then tight end Rob Gronkowski will likely have a hand in it.

Garoppolo and Gronkowski have gotten the chance to work together often with the first-team offense during training camp. In team drills and scrimmages, the young quarterback has, at times, relied upon his star tight end.

“The chemistry is definitely there, and we’re all on the same page of where we need to be and how we need to run things, so it’s all going smooth,” Gronkowksi said Wednesday after practice. “I would say after a few years now being together, going into our third year, I would definitely say we have a feel for each other. I definitely know when I come out of a break, where the ball is going to be with him. He knows where I’m going to be, so we’re definitely on the same page. We’ve felt each other out now to the point that we know what to expect.”

On the practice field, Garoppolo is working on developing timing and unspoken communication at the line of scrimmage with his tight ends.

“It’s kind of a feel thing,” he said of his growing chemistry with Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett. “You read their body language, you know what they’re going to do before they do it type of thing. I think as a quarterback, it’s a good feeling when, before the ball is even snapped, you know what this guy is going to do before he does it. It’s just a comforting feeling.”
