Eric LeGrand brought message of hope to Patriots training camp
The former Rutgers player was paralyzed while playing in 2010
Former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand, who became paralyzed after a terrifying on-field collision in 2010, visited Patriots training camp on Wednesday.
LeGrand arrived for the team’s joint practice with the New Orleans Saints on a rainy morning, and following its conclusion the two teams huddled together around LeGrand. Since his paralysis, LeGrand has found a new life as an inspirational speaker, delivering his message about overcoming adversity in its many forms.
Patriots rookie Malcolm Mitchell said “the message was to look at every obstacle as an opportunity, and not to let whatever problem you’re dealing with conquer you.”
The Saints’ official Twitter account tweeted this picture of LeGrand with fellow Rutgers alums Devin McCourty, Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon, and Brandon Coleman.

The Patriots also invited Celeste Corcoran, a survivor of the Marathon Bombings, and Jami Goldman Marseilles, a double-amputee who runs marathons. LeGrand met with the two women at the Boston Marathon finish line Tuesday night.
