Kevin Faulk discusses his ‘Hall of Fame play,’ the direct snap

"It's a play that we practiced every day, every week. But we only ran it one time a year."

Kevin Faulk will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Monday because of his body of work over 13 years with the Patriots. However, at his jacket fitting ceremony on Friday, the former running back did say that he has a defining “Hall of Fame play.”

“It’s gotta be the direct snap,” Faulk said, and broke the play down. “First of all as a running back, you’ve got to cheat over a little bit to make sure the center can get the ball to you. But when it’s called you understand how important that play is and how important that situation is at the time. It’s a play that we practiced every day, every week. But we only ran it one time a year. It was that type of play.”

The Patriots used the direct snap to Faulk on a two-point conversion in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Faulk carried the ball in for two points in the second quarter on the way to a Patriots’ 32-29 win over the Panthers. That was, perhaps, the most important moment where the Patriots employed Faulk in a direct snap.
