Tom Brady throws interception, spikes his helmet at Day 2 of training camp
Brady finished Friday throwing 12 of 17 with three touchdowns passes and an interception.
Some things don’t change.
Before, during, and now after Deflategate, Tom Brady appears to be the same perfectionist. On Friday at Day 2 of training camp, he was visibly frustrated on a few occasions, and spiked his helmet after failing to score a touchdown during his second set of the 7-on-7 drill.
He finished that set with two straight incompletions in the red area. The final pass was batted down at the line of scrimmage by a coaching assistant using paddles. Brady was blocked by the paddles twice on Thursday.
A few throws later during 11-on-11 drills, he could be heard swearing after more incompletions.
“It’s funny to me,” linebacker Jamie Collins said of Brady’s frustration Friday. “We try and get everybody like that.”
Patriots wideout Aaron Dobson didn’t see Brady spike the helmet. But he heard it.
“Tom’s a competitor,” Dobson said. “That just shows you what kind of competitor he is. As long as he’s been playing as much success as he’s had, he’s still competitive like that. It’s great to see that as one of your leaders.”
Brady finished Friday throwing 12 of 17 with three touchdowns passes and an interception. He also fit a number of passes into tight windows along the sideline, and found Dobson, Rob Gronkowski, and Chris Harper for solid gains.
“He’s been competitive even when we’re just working out,” Martellus Bennett said. “It’s fun because he plays at such a high level that you have to match that level. Oil and vinegar don’t mix — you just want to make sure you rise to the top when he rises to the top as well.”
