Patriots plan to honor 15th anniversary of first Super Bowl win
The Pats ended their title drought on Feb. 3, 2002.
It may seem inconceivable to younger Patriots fans, but the team hasn’t always been this dominant. After a 42-year history without a title, and 60-1 odds to win it before the 2001 season, the Pats pulled off the unthinkable, upsetting the Rams 20-17 in Super Bowl XXXVI.
It’s now been 15 years since that season, and the team announced Tuesday via press release that they plan to commemorate the anniversary throughout the 2016 season. The release announced a “content series that gives fans the opportunity to relive that magical season,” which begins this week. The festivities culminate on December 4th, when the ’01 team will reunite during halftime of the game against the L.A. Rams at Gillette Stadium.
The build-up to the reunion will include video vignettes on the Patriots’ social media accounts and websites focusing on storylines from that season such as the Tom Brady/Drew Bledsoe quarterback debate and the infamous “Tuck Rule” game against Oakland.
Other aspects of the celebration include a “Where Are They Now” series on Patriots All-Access, weekly posters of the 2001 team in Patriots Football Weekly, and a special exhibit at The Hall at Patriot Place.
Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft said of the celebration, “The victory made everyone that ever wore a Patriots uniform or rooted for the Patriots on the bleachers at Foxboro Stadium feel proud to be a fan. I know I am looking forward to reliving some of those great memories throughout the 2016 season.”
