Josh McDaniels says he wants to be a head coach again at some point
McDaniels went 11–17 as the Broncos head coach.
FOXBORO, Mass. — Josh McDaniels says he’s “happy” as the Patriots offensive coordinator, but he’s also willing to admit he has bigger aspirations.
“I want to be a head coach at some point in my life,” McDaniels told reporters Wednesday at Patriots training camp. “I’ve learned a lot over the last few years. Hopefully, gained a lot of wisdom. If and when that time comes, I’d look forward to doing it again.”
McDaniels left the Patriots before for a head coaching job. He went 11–17 as the Broncos head coach. He held the job for the entire 2009 season but was fired during the 2010 season after the Broncos started 3-9. He spent a season as the Rams offensive coordinator in 2011, and returned to the Patriots in 2012. In three of the last four seasons, McDaniels has helped the Patriots rank in the top 10 in offensive yards per game.
During the 2016 offseason, McDaniels reportedly received “plenty of interest” from teams hiring head coaches. He could be desirable candidate yet again in the 2017 offseason.
