Brandon LaFell thanks ‘first class organization’ following release from Patriots

Shortly before the announcement of his release Wednesday, Patriots wide receiver Brandon LaFell dropped a farewell post to fans on Instagram.

“First I want to thank the Kraft family and Bill for giving me the opportunity to play for a first class organization,’’ the 29-year-old receiver wrote. “My teammates for the relationship and memories on and off the field. TB 12 gonna miss you homie appreciate you the past two seasons your GREAT BOSS.’’

LaFell signed with the Patriots from the Carolina Panthers in 2014 and had a career-high seven touchdowns in his first season.

He also scored the first touchdown of Super Bowl XLIX against the Seahawks, which he capped off with a smooth endzone dance. It was later reported that during his celebratory headbutt with Tom Brady, he chipped one of the Patriots quarterback’s teeth.

LaFell’s contributions to the team in 2015, however, were limited due to a foot injury. He totalled zero touchdowns over 11 regular-season games played.

“Stay up and keep grinding.. APPRECIATE EVERYTHING #patsnation love the fan support #Superbowl #champ,’’ the wide receiver wrote in his post Wednesday.

Along with LaFell, the Patriots also released tight end Scott Chandler.
