Patriots release Montee Ball following arrest
The Patriots parted ways with running back Montee Ball on Tuesday, according to the official NFL transaction report. The former first-round draft pick went to jail Friday for a felony battery charge during an incident between Ball and his girlfriend in Madison, Wisconsin. Via ESPN.com, the former Wisconsin Badger was charged with misdemeanor battery five days earlier for striking the woman in the face, a compliant report says.
Ball was on a futures contract after spending the end of the Patriots season on the practice squad. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry for 731 rush yards and five touchdowns on his career.
