ESPN’s Danny Kanell: Broncos should hit Brady late to ‘send a message’
ESPN radio host Danny Kanell said the Denver Broncos should send New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady a message during Sunday’s AFC championship game, even if it means getting penalized for late hits along the way.
“Like, they’ve been talking about him crying, I almost feel like this is the type of game where you have to send a message like in the first and second quarter, the first half, hit him a couple of times where it’s a little past the whistle,’’ he said during the Friday broadcast. “Like, let him know you’re around. Get those knock downs, get those hits on him, make him aware that you’re coming after him.’’
The turtlenecked talker said the Broncos defensive rushers should take a couple of hard, late shots at Brady and accept the accompanying penalties.
“I’m not saying dirty, but questionable,’’ he said as co-host Ryen Russillo tried to clarify Kanell’s point.
“So on the edge?’’ Russillo asked.
“Yeah,’’ Kanell said. “You’ve got to push the envelope. Like, I would almost challenge them, like, and be like, ‘You know what? If you get a 15-yarder, it’s no big deal.’’’

The Friday comments had critics coming out of the Twitter woodwork, prompting Kanell to post several replies and defenses of his late hit suggestion, pointing out he never said the Broncos should try to injure Brady. He even employed his ridiculously adorable daughters in the effort.
