New England Patriots

NFL reportedly considering releasing PSI data before Super Bowl

Deflategate redux?

Tom Brady is all smiles after the Patriots defeated the Colts last year in the AFC Championship Game.

The Deflategate scandal may get additional context.

The NFL could release summaries of the random PSI measurements from the 2015 season, a source told ProFootballTalk.com. The data would be released between Sunday’s conference championship games and the Super Bowl, but the summaries may not include the raw measurements.

Perhaps, just like last year, talk of deflated footballs will dominate the conversation in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl.

The NFL implemented a new testing policy following the Patriots’ ball tampering scandal last season, when the league accused Tom Brady of being “generally aware’’ of a football doctoring operation in the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. The NFL elected to randomly test the PSI of game balls in 2015, measuring at halftime, replacing the balls, and testing the replacement balls at the end of the game.
