After initial fears that Jeremy Maclin had torn his right ACL a third time, the Kansas City Chiefs announced Sunday afternoon the wide receiver merely sprained his ankle in the team’s playoff victory Saturday against the Houston Texans.

According to Chiefs, who will play the No. 2 seed New England Patriots next Saturday in the AFC Divisional Round, Maclin is listed as day-to-day.

The Chiefs will play the Patriots at Gillette Stadium at 4:35 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on CBS.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Sunday that Maclin suffered only a high ankle sprain, after an MRI result indicated no ACL tear.

Maclin — the Chiefs’ leading wide receiver in catches, yards, and touchdowns — was in tears on the sideline after being carted off the field in the third quarter of the wild-card weekend game.

After the game, the Chiefs would only say that Maclin strained his right knee, but ESPN reported the team feared he had torn his ACL — the same one he tore in 2013 with the Philadelphia Eagles and in 2006 at the University of Missouri.

Maclin thanked fans for their support on Twitter following Saturday’s game.
