Steven Jackson says he ‘couldn’t ask for a better Christmas gift’
Steven Jackson is happy to be a New England Patriot.
The Patriots running back met with the media for the first time Wednesday after signing with the team earlier in the week.
“It’s exciting, couldn’t ask for a better Christmas gift,’’ Jackson said, via ESPN.com. “Initially I did [have doubts]. But I have a mom with strong faith and she instilled that in me.’’
Jackson didn’t talk long, around 90 seconds, but added that, “They’re already a championship team. They just needed some depth to the charge.’’ He said he’s kept in shape by working out three times a week and doing a little jogging.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about Jackson in his press availability, but as usual the coach didn’t say much.
“I think his career speaks for itself,’’ said Belichick. “We’ll see where it goes.’’
On the challenge of integrating Jackson into a stable of running backs that includes James White, Brandon Bolden, and Joey Iosefa, Belichick said, “We’ll see. It’s been a long time since he’s been on a football field.’’
