How to have a happy Gronksgiving

Happy Gronksgiving Dunkin’ Donuts

For Rob Gronkowski, “mental toughness’’ is a part of Thanksgiving this year. The Patriots’ All-Pro tight end could eat an entire pie or six pounds of turkey. But he won’t, even if he wants to.

“No, there’s mental toughness right there, right there baby,’’ Gronkowski told reporters on Wednesday when asked if he was afraid of overeating. “Knowing that you’ve got the huge pie in front of you and just only eating a little piece even though you want to eat the whole pie. Definitely know what your limit is because I know anyone in this locker room could put down like six pounds of food right there and come in the next day a little sluggish. You’ve got to focus on that and not do that. We’re not going to eat six pounds of turkey. I mean, I’m not going to even though I want to. If it was the offseason I’d eat that whole pie.’’

Patriots fans will likely be thankful for Gronkowski’s restraint ahead of the team’s showdown with the Broncos in Denver on Sunday.

“Obviously, you’ve got a routine. Know what to have, know what to eat,’’ he said. “I’ve been playing for six years. This is my sixth Thanksgiving during the season. Just enjoy the food. Enjoy your friends and family, have a good time, but at the same time, we’re focused on the Denver Broncos. We definitely got to prepare. It’s going to be a huge game.’’

Even if he saves a few slices of pie for the offseason, Gronk won’t likely be skipping his favorite Thanksgiving food altogether.

“Stuffing, that always goes good with the turkey,’’ Gronkowski responded Wednesday when asked what he must eat during the holiday. “You don’t want when someone makes a dry turkey you always need a cup of extra gravy or something on top of that. Stuffing always goes good. You put stuffing on top of whatever you’re about to eat and it makes it delicious.’’

Ahead of the holiday, Gronkowski showed off some of his own Thanksgiving cooking skills in a video for Dunkin’ Donuts. While cooking a turkey for the first time in the clip, he reminisced about how much food his family would need on Thanksgiving.

“Come on, you think my mom went to the store and got two small turkeys? My mom was always getting like 50-pound turkeys,’’ he said in the video.

For those looking to have a very happy Gronksgiving, it sounds like you’ll need plenty of stuffing, a 50-pound turkey and a heaping helping of “mental toughness.’’
