Giddy Rex Ryan compares beating Jets to getting back at a girl

Rex Ryan’s Buffalo Bills beat Ryan’s old team, the New York Jets, 22-17 Thursday night in a key AFC East divisional showdown.

While it’s not like Rex to gloat, the coach was positively beaming in his postgame press conference, calling out and bantering with New York reporters by name, and several times exhaling as if he’d just finished an exceptional tiramisu.

“It’s pretty satisfying, without question,’’ Ryan said.

It’s not like Ryan to make the games about himself — he purposefully stayed off the field during pregame warmups to avoid the spotlight — but the now-Bills coach did give up a little personal insight into how it felt to beat his former team.

“I can tell the truth, this thing is kind of like being dumped by some girl you have the hots for,’’ Ryan said, via the Associated Press. “Every guy in this room has been dumped by a girl. You move on, and every now and then, they call you back. And they can’t have you back.’’

Because it would’t be right if Ryan didn’t talk about the New England Patriots during a press conference, he talked about them, too.

“As good as the Jets are, the best team is still the New England Patriots,’’ Ryan said, via USA Today. “And so that’s the one I’ll always chase.’’
