Patriots overpower Jaguars, 51-17
The wins and the milestones keep coming for Tom Brady and the Patriots.
The defending Super Bowl champs defeated the Jaguars, 51-17, on Sunday at Gillette Stadium to improve to 3-0. Brady threw two touchdown passes and racked up 358 yards in the air. Brady’s first touchdown pass of the day was the 400th of his career, making him just the fourth player in NFL history to reach the milestone.
“It was a good day, so it’s fun to be out there,’’ Brady told reporters after the game. “I think everyone enjoyed it. It was a good performance by our offense, a good team win.’’

The 51 points scored by the Patriots was the highest total every allowed by the Jaguars, according to The Associated Press.
“I thought they played a great game,’’ Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said after the game. “Obviously we didn’t do as well as we needed to on defense. That team played with precision in all three phases. When you play against a really good team, you really see the importance of precision and we didn’t play with that.’’
The Patriots have a bye in Week 4 and return to action on Oct. 10 against the Dallas Cowboys.
“I’m proud of the way they practiced, prepared and played today,’’ Patriots coach Bill Belichick said during his postgame press conference. “Hopefully now we can take advantage of a little bit of extra time this week and work on some of the things that we still need to improve and keep improving on and be ready to go down to Dallas in a couple weeks.’’
