LeGarrette Blount piles up three touchdowns against the Jaguars

Blount force is back.

Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount rushed 18 times for 78 yards and three touchdowns in New England’s 51-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. All of Blount’s touchdowns came on 1-yard rushes in the second half after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady notched his 400th career passing touchdown in the second quarter.

With the Patriots looking to preserve and extend their 20-3 halftime lead, Blount helped chew clock in the second half. The Jaguars may have known the 240-pound back was getting the ball in the red zone. Still, they couldn’t stop him — especially not on the goal line — as the Patriots’ offense scored on every drive until the final whistle.

Running back Dion Lewis, who led Patriots’ running backs in rushing yards and receiving yards entering the game, had 30 receiving yards, 37 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown on Sunday. Second-year back James White had 34 yards on six touches. When Lewis congratulated Blount on his first touchdown of the season, it appeared the two backs had no problem sharing scoring duties.

Suspended for the season opener and limited to just two carries in the Patriots’ win over the Bills, Blount had a slow start in 2015. Against the Jaguars, he came pounding back onto the NFL’s radar.
