Donald Trump claims he has Tom Brady’s endorsement during Twitter Q&A

Donald Trump stopped by Twitter headquarters for a public Q&A on Monday using the hashtag #AskTrump. While he ignored the many jokes about his hair, his un-PC views, and his resemblance to this potato, he did manage to give a shoutout to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in one of the 12 questions he answered, claiming that Brady had endorsed him.

Trump answered two questions about football: one about whether Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is “elite’’ or not (answer: “very elite,’’ according to Trump), and one about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s injury during yesterday afternoon’s game versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

While Trump did talk about Romo, mentioning that he’s a great guy whom Trump knows personally, Trump interrupted his thoughts on Romo to start talking about Brady and the Patriots.

“Well the fact that Tony Romo got hurt is a terrible thing for the Dallas Cowboys,’’ Trump said. “I think Tony’s a great guy, I know him, and he’s also a great football player. And it will certainly hurt Dallas, but their defense is excellent.’’

“Tom Brady just came out and endorsed me, and Tom Brady had another fantastic game, a total winner.’’

“It’s going to be a very interesting season, but for Dallas, not good news. For the Patriots, the way Tom is playing, great news.’’

Trump’s words are similar to what he said after Brady’s Deflategate suspension was vacated.

While some say Trump has a tendency to exaggerate things, he’s not too far off with this claim. Brady did not officially endorse Trump, saying on the Dennis & Callahan show Sept. 8 he didn’t know if he would vote for him. But he did say Trump winning the presidency “would be great’’ during a Q&A with reporters on Sept. 16. And when asked if he thought the man he calls “a good friend’’ and whose campaign hat sits in Brady’s locker had what it takes to win the White House, he said, “I hope so.’’
