Chandler Jones: ‘Let your pads do the talking, not your mouth’

Bill Belichick’s Patriots may not talk trash like Rex Ryan’s Bills. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t have things to say about talking trash.

Veteran defensive end Chandler Jones had a few choice words about how he prefers to deliver a message ahead of the Patriots’ first 2015 matchup with the Bills.

“That’s how you’re a professional,’’ Jones said on Wednesday. “Professionals should carry themselves that way. Let your pads do the talking, not your mouth.’’

The comment came after Bills players and fans have been generating headlines with comments about Tom Brady and the Patriots.

While this philosophy seems in line with Belichick’s teams, it’s one Jones has held for a long time.

“Personally, that’s how I was raised: being quiet through it all, just let people see you and not hear you for the most part,’’ he said.

Going back to his days as coach of the Jets, Ryan has never been shy about expressing confidence in his players or sharing his opinions on opponents. Those in the Patriots’ locker room continue to show little interest in beating Ryan at that game.

“We’re not in high school where it’s ‘ra, ra’ and this guy said that. This is the National Football League,’’ wide receiver Julian Edelman said. “This is our job, so if you’ve taken time out of your day to think about what other teams are saying, and what’s going on in the outside world, you’re taking away time for preparing.’’
