Bills’ Marcell Dareus says ‘nobody likes the Patriots’
Good morning, Boston. Here’s what’s going on in sports today:
Red Sox shut down reliever Junichi Tazawa: “Interim manager Torey Lovullo made the announcement after the Red Sox lost 6-5 to the Orioles in 13 innings on Tuesday. He said the decision was made shortly before the game. “I want to make this perfectly clear,’’ Lovullo said. “There is no injury. There is nothing behind this other than us giving him a rest.’’ (WEEI.com)
Patriots work out receiver Terrelle Pryor: “ Terrelle Pryor couldn’t make it with the Cleveland Browns, but last year’s Super Bowl champs might be interested. Every game, all season NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported that the New England Patriots worked out the quarterback-turned-wideout on Monday, per a source with knowledge of the visit.’’ (NFL.com)
Ben Roethlisberger continues to express frustrations from the season opener: “In a lot of games, the offensive coordinator to quarterback headset, there’ll be — whether it’s one play, it’s static, something — it’ll go out,’’ Roethlisberger said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s at home, on the road, it just never fails. There’s almost always some kind of communication [problem]. But it’s real brief. It never lasts very long … I think the difference this time — and this is, like I said, there was no communication issues really between [offensive coordinator Todd] Haley and myself — but what I was told and what [backup quarterback] Bruce [Gradkowski] told me when he listened is that when we had the ball on offense, our coach-to-coach communication, so the guys up in the box to the guys on the sideline, were not only hearing themselves but they were hearing the radio broadcast of the game. And from what I was told from Coach Haley it was only when we had the ball. When the Patriots had the ball there was no radio broadcast.’’ (CSNNE.com)

Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus says “nobody likes the Patriots:’’ “One day after coach Rex Ryan said he didn’t know the name of Patriots running back Dion Lewis, Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus fired another salvo in advance of Sunday’s game between the AFC East rivals.’’ (ESPN.com)
At this point, losing games can help the Red Sox: “Normally a bad thing. But really it’s a good thing. The Red Sox are now caught in that conundrum that a lot of bad teams get entangled in at this time of the season. Do they hope to lose enough games the rest of the way so they’ll have a protected No. 1 pick?’’ (The Boston Globe)
Mike Tomlin admits Patriots didn’t break rules:

What is hurling? “On Tuesday, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced that hurling will be played at Fenway Park this fall for the first time in 60 years. Teams from Dublin and Galway will play an exhibition on Nov. 22. So, what exactly is hurling?’’ (The Boston Globe)
