The only thing Patriots-Steelers couple agrees on: Goodell is no good

A house divided still hates Roger Goodell, apparently. Hilary Sargent / Boston.com

Barbara Bane is a Steelers fan. Her husband, Ken, is not.

While they’ve been married for 13 years, tonight’s matchup between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers will put their devotion to a test.

“I got him the tickets as a birthday surprise,’’ Barbara said, as she avoided the rain by standing under an overhang outside the pro shop at Gillette Stadium.

Barbara and Ken have different hopes for tonight’s outcome. What Ken and Barbaara can agree on is Deflategate.

“I don’t think Brady cheated,’’ Barbara said.

“I don’t think he did anything wrong either,’’ Ken said.

“We’re both anti-Goodell — we have been for years,’’ explained Barbara. “It has brought us together.’’

Ken agreed: “We have joined forces by both disliking Goodell.’’

During the trip from their home in Marblehead to Gillette, Barbara and Ken discussed their post-game strategy.

Barbara knows what a Steelers loss will mean for the ride home.

“If the Patriots win, oh God, that will be bad,’’ Barbara said. “[Ken] will want to leave the game early. He will be inconsolable. He’ll be hating on the Steelers the whole way home.’’

Ken has his own requirements.

“If the Patriots lose, we’re not listening to any talk radio. We will listen to soft rock only.’’
