The title defense is underway. And the Gronk spikes are already adding up.

The Patriots defeated the Steelers 28-21 in the opening game of the 2015 NFL season on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady completed 25 of 32 passing attempts for four touchdowns and 288 yards in the win. Three of those touchdown passes were caught by Rob Gronkowski.

“He’s our leader,’’ Gronkowski told NBC’s Michele Tafoya when asked about Brady on the field after the game. “He’s just a great player, and it’s fun playing with him.’’

The celebratory night in Foxborough began with the Patriots raising the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl banner and included a “Where is Roger?’’ chant directed at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who announced that he would not be attending the game after Brady’s four-game Deflategate suspension was vacated by a federal judge a week before the season began.
