President Barack Obama went to a Boston union rally Monday and did what politicians do.

And then, he invoked someone who transcends political parties in Boston: Tom Brady.

“Even Tom Brady is glad he belongs to a union,’’ the president said, via Alison King of NECN. “They had his back. And if Brady needs a union – we definitely need unions.’’

Using the New England Patriots quarterback is never a bad idea in Boston.

But it’s a tricky allusion to make. While District Court Judge Richard M. Berman vacated Brady’s four-game suspension, the NFLPA also caused some problems for Brady along the way. Most notably, For The Win points out, the NFLPA signed a collective bargaining agreement, which granted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell the liberty to deliver the four-game suspension and arbitrate that suspension’s appeal.
