Study finds Patriots fans second most-willing to spend money on their team
A new study from Emory University determines that Patriots fans are the second-best fan base in the NFL, at least in their “willingness to financially support their team.’’
The Patriots fan base trails only that of the Dallas Cowboys, as measured by the Atlanta-based school’s study.
“What we are really trying to get at is what team has the most avid, engaged, passionate and supportive fans,’’ the study says. “In particular, we are focused on market outcomes like attendance, prices or revenues.’’
Fan base rankings Patriots fans will be happy to compare favorably to: Baltimore Ravens fans rank fourth, New York Jets fans fifth, Indianapolis Colts fans ninth, Denver Broncos fans 13th, Seattle Seahawks fans 26th, Buffalo Bills fans 28th, and Miami Dolphins fans dead last at 32nd.
Emory concedes that its study is beneficial to teams that win and teams that are located in cities where ticket prices can be highest. Hence, some of the most dedicated fan bases in the NFL – Emory cites seventh-ranked Green Bay and 14th ranked Pittsburgh – don’t rank at the top in fan equity.
