The NFL Players’ Association has reportedly filed a complaint on behalf of Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler after he was held out of weeks of practice following a missed voluntary team workout on May 26th.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss was first to report the story, and he noted that the complaint was filed without Butler’s approval. The NFL Network’s Albert Breer noted on Twitter that the NFLPA could request film from the Patriots practice, as well as attendance lists and a discipline schedule.

The Patriots and/or head coach Bill Belichcik could be subject to a fine if the league and the NFLPA find they violated the CBA, per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Butler was the hero in Super Bowl XLIX, sealing the victory with his interception in the final minute. He reportedly missed the organized team activities on May 26th because of a weather-related travel issue.
