The Denver Broncos deny a report they tried to trade future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning before restructuring his contract in March.

Benjamin Allbright of Mile High Sports Radio in Denver cited “two unrelated official sources’’ in reporting the Broncos attempted to deal Manning to the Houston Texans in the offseason. Manning’s restructured contract includes a no trade clause for 2015, so the Broncos can’t trade him until next season at the earliest.

Broncos Vice President of Public Relations Patrick Smyth responded to Allbright’s report on Twitter, saying “The speculation is false, and your report is inaccurate.’’

Manning’s agent Tom Condon and Broncos general manager John Elway also denied there was any attempt to trade Manning. 2012 second round pick Brock Osweiler is the presumed heir to the starting job in Denver, while the Texans have uncertainty at the quarterback position and attempted to sign Manning as a free agent in 2012.

Allbright broke a handful of free agency signings this offseason and was first to report the Rams’ interest in trading for quarterback Nick Foles, which came to fruition in March.

Manning took a $4 million pay cut to return to the Broncos in 2015, but he can earn all the money back in incentives. He’s slated to make a $15 million base salary.
