Buccaneers claim Tim Wright off waivers

Well, that didn’t take long.

Less than 24 hours after being released by the Patriots, tight end Tim Wright was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 25-year-old is returning to the team that dealt him to New England last summer in exchange for All-Pro guard Logan Mankins.

Wright, in his second season out of Rutgers, caught 26 passes for 259 yards and six touchdowns for the Patriots in 2014. His production fell off at the end of the season, recording just three catches over the Patriots’ final five games. He also failed to register on the score sheet in any of the Patriots’ three playoff games.

Even with Wright’s departure, the Patriots tight end corps remains fully stocked, with Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler, Michael Hoomanawanui, Fred Davis and A.J. Derby all occupying roster spots.
