Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garappolo says he is only worrying about what he can control. That means he’s not worrying about Deflategate or whether he’s going to start in place of Tom Brady in the Patriots’ first game of the 2015 season. Instead, he’s worrying about trying to improve in case he’s called into action.

“He’s accomplished a ton. Four Super Bowl rings, that’s as impressive as it gets,’’ Garoppolo said of Brady, while speaking to reporters on Friday at the Patriots’ organized team activities at Gillette Stadium. “But you’ve got to worry about the things you can control. And just trying to improve every day, that’s all I can worry about right now.’’

A second round selection out of Eastern Illinois in the 2014 NFL draft, Garoppolo could be pressed into a key role for the defending Super Bowl champions. Brady was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for his role in Deflategate. With Brady’s appeal yet to be heard, the quarterbacks shared repetitions during drills on Friday.
