Shane Vereen says he never noticed any differences in the Patriots footballs

After calling his move to New York to join the Giants “a step up,’’ former Patriots running back Shane Vereen probably wasn’t feeling the love he deserved from Patriots fans after he caught 11 passes in Super Bowl XLIX.

Vereen’s defense of his former team and quarterback in the Deflategate scandal might be enough to get him off the naughty list.

“I had no awareness of anything that was going on,’’ Vereen said, according to the New York Daily News.

Vereen stressed the importance the Patriots placed on practicing and executing good ball security, crediting that commitment to the team’s success more so than any possible deflating of the footballs. He also said Deflategate has no bearing on Tom Brady’s place in history.

“Personally, I don’t think it hurts his legacy at all,’’ Vereen told the NYDN. “I have the utmost respect for him as a player and as a person. I guess everything will sort itself out.’’
